Soft Wash Or Pressure Wash? The Straight Answer

Ask two companies to clean your siding and you might get two different answers. One backs a trailer up and blasts the house with high pressure. The other uses low pressure and a cleaning solution. Same dirty house, very different outcomes, and one of them can cost you a siding repair.

Elite Softwash owner Brandon Metzger explained the difference on WANE 15’s Living Local, in the video above, drawing on 3,000+ properties cleaned across northern Indiana.

The short answer: pressure washing uses high water pressure and belongs on hard surfaces like concrete, brick, and stone. Soft washing uses low pressure plus professional cleaning solutions and is the safe method for siding, roofs, and painted surfaces. A good exterior cleaning company carries both and knows which one each surface needs.

Quick Comparison: Which Method For Which Surface

What Each Method Does Best

What Is Soft Washing, Exactly?

Soft washing applies a professional cleaning solution at low pressure, about the strength of a garden hose. The solution does the work: it kills algae, mold, and organic growth at the root, then everything rinses away gently. Because the growth dies instead of just getting knocked off, the clean lasts years instead of months. It reaches gutters, soffits, and every course of siding without stressing any of it. This is how we handle house washing and roof cleaning.

What Is Pressure Washing Best At?

Hard, mineral surfaces. Concrete, stone, brick, pavers. Years of ground in grime, tire marks, and algae strips come off driveways and patios in one pass with a commercial surface cleaner, without the wand stripes a rental machine leaves. That is the heart of our pressure washing service.

What Goes Wrong When You Pressure Wash Siding Or Shingles?

Three things. First, water gets forced behind siding panels where it cannot dry, and that invites mold and rot you cannot see. Second, shingles lose granules, which is their sun protection, and manufacturers can void warranties over it. Third, the growth is only surface stripped, not killed, so the green and the streaks come back fast. The house looked clean for a season and paid for it for years.

So Which One Does Your House Need?

Usually both, in one visit. Soft wash the siding and roof, pressure wash the driveway and walks, flush the gutters while the crew is there. That is why we quote whole property bundles: one crew, one day, every surface cleaned with the method it was built for.

Common Questions

Is soft washing safe for plants and landscaping?
Yes, with proper technique. We wet down and rinse landscaping around the work area as part of every job.

Why does a soft wash last longer than a pressure wash?
Because the solution kills growth at the root. Blasting only removes what you can see and leaves the roots to regrow.

Does soft washing work on every kind of siding?
Vinyl, painted wood, brick, Hardie board, and cedar all soft wash well. Each gets a solution mix suited to the surface.
