Home Maintenance Starts Outside
When you own a home there is a lot to do, and the outside surfaces are the first thing that gets neglected. Life is busy. Meanwhile the siding, gutters, roof, windows, concrete, and deck all keep collecting grime and growth. On Living Local 15, Brandon Metzger explained why staying ahead of it protects your home, not just its looks.
Watch The Shaded, North Facing Sides
Algae and organic growth show up first where the sun does not reach: the north facing side of your home and anywhere shaded by a big tree. UV light helps prevent that growth, so the shaded areas go first. On a roof it looks like black streaks and green growth, and it eats into the shingles, breaking them down over time until you are looking at leaks and a roof replacement. On siding and gutters you see the same green algae, along with algae lichen that clumps and holds moisture against the surface.
Cleaning Is Cheaper Than Replacing
Regular soft washing removes the growth before it does permanent damage. It is a small, routine cost that protects a very expensive investment. Put your roof and exterior on a schedule and the growth never gets ahead of you.
